OPERATOR 6121: Logging start of shift. Sanitary Processing Unit warm-up sequence.

Pipe one, online. Pressure: nominal. Pipe two, online. Pressure: nominal. Pipe three, online. Pressure: nominal.

I have to say, every shift this place sounds different. Tonight the pipes are humming in — that’s a major sixth. It’s actually pretty.

Pipe four, online. Pipe five, online. Pipe six — pipe six is asking me a question.

Pipe six, can you repeat that? Pipe six is — pipe six is saying “Tomas.” That’s — that’s my brother’s name. My brother died in 2014.

Pipe six, please confirm by audible response. Two clicks for yes, one click for no. Pipe six? … That was two clicks. Pipe six confirms it knows my brother’s name.

I am going to finish my shift. I am going to finish my shift. The Bureau is going to want to hear this. I am going to mention it on Form 847-B.

[recording continues for 47 minutes; mostly the hum, mostly the operator’s breathing, occasional clicks from pipe six]

CONTEXT

Bureau Annotation

Operator 6121 finished their shift. They submitted Form 847-B. The form was filed under “routine equipment chatter.”

Operator 6121 has not asked pipe six any further questions. Pipe six occasionally still clicks twice. The Bureau attributes this to thermal expansion.

In FIREWALL//ZERO, the SPU boss’s phase 1 audio loop contains an extra two-click track. The Bureau cannot find it in the source files.
